Ekomobilnost 2024 Zagreb

Welcome to EkoMobilnost 2024 – the leading event dedicated to sustainable mobility in the region!

After successful previous years, this year we are directing our focus towards the culturally vibrant city of Zagreb to explore the latest trends and crown the Mobility Week with technologies and innovations shaping the future of mobility. In collaboration with Bird Incubator and EIT Urban mobility RIS Hub Croatia, EkoMobilnost 2024 will be held as a three-day event dedicated to the impact of motor vehicles on the environment and climate, with a special emphasis on the role of media in educating the public on these issues.

As a part of our mission for a clean environment and net zero cities, we will particularly focus on topics such as the importance of batteries, but also the environmental impact of their life cycle. We expect the participation of partners from the Government of the Republic of Croatia, as well as various sectors crucial for achieving our goals – ecology, infrastructure, energy, transportation, as well as local authorities and relevant organizations. Our aim is to facilitate dialogue and partnerships to enable the implementation of concrete solutions and changes.

“E-mobility: Fervor Hot, but is it Green or Not?”

In this vibrant session, leading voices in sustainable transport challenge the eco-credentials of electric vehicles. They’ll dissect the journey of EV batteries from cradle to grave, revealing the nuanced realities behind greener transportation. Expect a dynamic exploration of e-mobility’s true colors, where cutting-edge research meets on-the-ground experience.

Using renewable energy to charge electric vehicles (EVs) helps reduce carbon emissions. Traditional vehicles contribute significantly to air pollution and climate change, but by tapping into renewable sources (RES), we can minimize these negative environmental impacts. While electric vehicles (EVs) are generally considered ‘greener’ than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, they are not entirely without negative impacts, even when integrating RES. A stumbling block and a key prerequisite for e-mobility – it’s all about batteries.

The manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly used in electric vehicles, involves mining and processing raw materials, some of them being critical. Battery production also requires a significant amount of energy, while effective recycling processes are still developing. Are we making any progress in addressing e-mobility challenges? E-mobility is hot, but is it green – or not?

“Green Financial Challenge 2.0”

This panel discussion brings together seasoned experts from top financial institutions and ESG thought leaders. These speakers are acclaimed for their extensive experience in green financing, from crafting innovative funding models for sustainable projects to integrating ESG strategies at the highest levels of financial decision-making.

We will examine the transformative role of banks and financial institutions in supporting the shift towards sustainable mobility. Our discussion will pivot around the financing of electric vehicles and the infrastructure for charging stations, probing how innovative lending policies can accelerate this transition. We’ll delve into the economic viability of micro-mobility solutions, questioning how financial models can underpin their expansion in urban landscapes. Central to our conversation will be the role of financial institutions in funding renewable energy sources and their associated storage systems, exploring how these investments can balance risk and reward. Finally, we’ll touch on the potential of banks as educational hubs, equipping clients with knowledge on financing options for greener choices, thus acting as catalysts for widespread environmental change.

14:45 - 15:45

“Low, zero, neutral…go!”

This discussion convenes top environmental strategists and urban development experts, focused on advancing sustainable, emission-free urban environments. Their collective expertise in green infrastructure and urban policy reform is pivotal in steering cities towards carbon neutrality.

When it comes to urban mobility, low-emission and zero-emission zones play crucial roles in creating cleaner and more sustainable urban environments, especially affecting air quality.

However, carbon i.e. climate-neutral cities and territories go beyond that, and address overall carbon emissions, which involves not only cleaner transportation but also sustainable practices in various sectors like energy, waste management, and building construction. What are the key challenges of planning and implementing low- and zero-emission zones in cities? What are the impacts and how to measure them? How many steps are there between simply reducing emissions and achieving climate neutrality? Where to start from?

This round table will gather various stakeholders from national, regional and local level, both public and private sector, discussing best practice, possible solutions and pathways to a net-zero future.

16:00 - 17:00
